Kansanshi 300x174By Martin Musunka –

THREE members of the emergency response unit yesterday sustained injuries, while fighting a fire that gutted one of the chemical reagent storage sheds at Kansanshi Mine in Solwezi.
Kansanshi acting general manager Meiring Burger who confirmed the fire in a statement, said the rescue team moved swiftly and contained the fire which was first reported around 06.00 hours yesterday morning.
Mr Burger said apart from the three minor injuries recorded, there were no other injuries and all staff working in the area had been accounted for.
He said management was still assessing the extent of the damage and loss, as a result of the fire incident which had extended to the adjoining shed.
Mr Burger said production of copper and gold had not been affected and that there was no loss recorded.
