THE organising committee of the 2015 Mopani Copper Mines/Redpath Mining Zambia Open Golf Championship says it has raised 97.5 percent of the US$1.1 million budget.
Zambia Open Organising committee (ZOOC) chairperson Emmanuel Mutati said this yesterday when Standard Chartered Bank donated K143, 028 towards the hosting of Open that tees off on April 23 to 26 at the Nkana Golf Club in Kitwe.
Mutati said the organising committee had so far raised 97.5 per cent to successfully host the tournament and that the donation from Standard Chartered Bank has made the job of meeting the budget easier.
“I would like to thank most sincerely the management of Standard Chartered Bank for coming on board to support our efforts so that we can put up the best ever Zambia Open Golf tournament and bring pride to the country,” he said.
Mutati said that other than the US$300,000 prize money, the ZOOC has also secured prizes for four hole-in-one at numbers three, seven, 11 and 15 after Southern Cross Motors sponsored two vehicles with Toyota Zambia and Yeti Motors pledging a car each.
Standard Chartered Bank head of corporate affairs Christine Matambo, who handed over the cheque to Mutati, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment towards sponsoring the tournament.
“Standard Chartered Bank and Mopani have a long standing relationship and that is why we are pleased to support the 2015 Zambia Open to the tune of K143,028 as the gold sponsor,” Matambo said.
She said the company’s support towards this annual event demonstrates their commitment to men and women who support the mining industry.
Matambo said the bank has no doubt that this year’s event will be bigger and better than previous events.
The $300,000-rich Mopani/Redpath Zambia Open will be followed by the Zambia Sugar Open which has a prize tag of R1.5 million (about K900, 000) and will run from April 30-May 3.
Meanwhile, Metropolitan Health Zambia has pumped in K20,000 towards hosting of the Metropolitan Nchanga Open Golf tournament to be held on Saturday in Chingola.
Metropolitan’s managing director Florence Kazhanje said the sponsorship is part of the company’s on-going commitment to activities that support health and fitness, as part of its overall corporate strategy to provide top quality healthcare solutions.
“Our goal is to ensure the wellness of each and every one of our clients, but also this sponsorship demonstrates our commitment to expanding our footprint in the Copperbelt market. Last Month we donated an assortment of backpacks to the Zesco United Under-20 team participating in the Metropolitan Challenge Cup in Cape Town,” she said.
Kazhanje said Metropolitan was exploring ways with the club leadership to make a long-term partnership so as to help Chingola restore its global position of having a Golf course in the top 14 best Golf courses in the world outside the United States of America (USA)
Club President Francis Temba expressed delight with the sponsorship of Metropolitan Zambia as the main sponsor for the 2015 Nchanga Open.
This is contained in a statement released by Metropolitan marketing manager Raymond Kufekisa.
