ZAMBIA has been provided with a perfect opportunity to seek revenge against Tanzania after the two sides were drawn together in the first round qualifiers of the Papua New Guinea 2016 FIFA Under-20 Women World Cup.
The draws released yesterday by CAF will see Tanzania host Zambia on the weekend of July 10-12 with the return leg set for the weekend of July 24-26. The winner of this tie will advance to the second round to play either South Africa or Botswana in September.
Should Zambia negotiate past the second round, then the third and final round will be a match likely against Nigeria. The qualifiers on the side of Zambia’s third round possible opponents start with a preliminary round between DR Congo and Gabon.
The winner will then play Namibia for a place in the second round to face the victor of the Nigeria versus Sierra Leone or Liberia tie from which a third round winner will be known to face Zambia, provided the team reach the last stage.
However, it will be the first round match that will excite Zambians especially after the Shepolopolo were eliminated 6-5 on aggregate by Tanzania in the race to for a place at the 2015 All Africa Games (AAG) finals.
Meanwhile, the Under-17 women team that qualified to the last World Cup final held in Costa Rica has been exempted from playing the preliminary round but will face South Africa in the first round.
Zambia will guest South Africa, the same side they beat en-route to qualifying for the 2014 World cup finals, on the weekend of January 8-10 with the fixture set for three weeks time.
The winner of that fixture will advance to second round for a tough fixture against either Nigeria or Botswana/Namibia in March for a place at the FIFA 2016 Women World Cup to be held in Jordan.
