THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is studying the Supreme Court judgement that ordered the commission to consider Parliamentary by-election applications from former Petauke Central Member of Parliament (MP) Dora Siliya and two others.
The commission said a decision would be made soon on whether or not the three applicants could be allowed to stand in their respective constituencies and the date for the elections.
The Supreme Court about two weeks ago ordered the ECZ to consider the Parliamentary by-election applications from Ms Siliya and two others, whose seats were nullified after they were convicted of electoral malpractices.
The other two are MMD Malambo MP, Maxwell Mwale and United Party for National Development Mulobezi MP Hastings Sililo.
Ms Siliya was at the time of nullification a representative of MMD but she had since resigned to join the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) and has also declared her interest to run for the same seat.
ECZ spokesperson Cris Akufuna said in an interview yesterday that the commission had received the Supreme Court judgement and was deliberating on it.
“The commission has received the judgement now and it is been looked at after which a decision would be made,” Mr Akufuna said.
He said once the decision is made, ECZ would make an announcement and inform the public on its decision.
