By RACKSON SHAMUTUKU –
OVER 100 illegal structures of single quarter (SQ) house extensions in Chingola will be demolished to pave way for road construction works.
The houses which are situated next to the Konkola Copper Mines  underground plant  near Nchanga
North General Hospital have additional structures such as shops.
Sino Hydro Contractors of China who have since commenced rehabilitation of the main Kitwe Road up to the old airport requested, Chingola Municipal Council to move the residents who had built structures on  the drainage system.
The  Chingola Municipal Council gave the residents a 1- day ultimatum  to  vacate the illegal structures.
The residents who have  since acknowledged that they made a mistake  by building  on the drainage system have requested the area Member of Parliament (MP) Wylbur Simuusa and council to intervene in the matter.
However, the MP  who addressed the residents said he would get back to them soon after an alternative solution was found.
“ We need to hold a meeting with the area councillor, council officials and the contractor so that we have a balance on both sides since your concern has been presented before me and we also want to hear from  the other side especially taxi drivers, about their concern since they are also affected” Mr Simuusa said.
