INFLUENTIAL UPND Bweengwa Member of Parliament (MP) Highvie Hamududu has indicated his willingness to accept a role in Government.
Mr Hamududu said in an interview that he is willing to work with President Edgar Lungu in successfully governing the people and bringing development to the country.
He, however, emphasised that such an appointment should be done in discussion with the UPND party leader Hakainde Hichilema.
The law maker said there is a provision in the UPND for a coalition rather than poaching an MP from the Party without the blessing of the party leaders.
“Most of the MPs and members that have been poached from the party have been joining the Patriotic Front (PF) for their personal benefit and not to offer service to the people of Zambia,” Mr Hamududu said.
He said if Mr Lungu wants to work with everybody he must propose, like is the case in other countries, to work with the opposition through a coalition.
He said President Lungu should not under-perform like some previous leaders, but should ensure that he introduces a new direction in leadership.
“When the late President Levy Mwanawasa spoke about corruption, everyone up to the district level was fighting corruption, Mr Lungu must pronounce his vision,” he said.
Mr Hamududu added that President Lungu should also lead by example by cutting down on expenditure on a number of programmes and channel money to developmental projects.
He said President Lungu should not be like some previous leaders who worked for self-preservation and not in the interests of the people.
On Saturday, UPND vice-president Richard Kapita announced his defection to the PF at a rally in Mwinilunga.
Mr Kapita said he decided to join PF because President Lungu inspired him, as he wants to work with all those that want to develop Zambia.
He was one of the founding members of the UPND in 1998 and he was Mwinilunga Member of Parliament on the party ticket.
