FARMERS in Muwowo area in Kabwe are in fear of an imminent uncontrollable cattle disease outbreak after the death of more than 60 animals in the last few months.
The farmers in the area have no access to veterinary services because the nearest veterinary office is 20 kilometres away.
Muwowo Ward Councilor Moses Singombe said the area had a lot of livestock because of the large farmer population there.
He has since called on the Government to consider taking veterinary services to the farmers.
Mr Singombe said farmers in the district had challenges with keeping their animals safe from disease, as the area has no dip tank.
“Farmers in Muwowo ward have lost about 60 cattle to animal diseases since January this year, as the area has no veterinary services,” Mr Singombe said.
He, however, said the construction of the only dip tank in the area was still under construction.
Mr Singombe said the contractor moved on site and immediately commenced the works after Government had released funds last year.
He said the District faced a number of challenges when it came to animal disease control.
‘’I am happy with the contractor working on the dip tank in the area as the works are on course,’’ Mr Singombe said.
