THE Education Ministry will resolve the shortage of teachers at Nyenyezi Community School in Kabwe which currently only has one teacher is handling more than 100 pupils.
Education Deputy Minister Sydney Mushanga said he was concerned with the situation at the school, situated about 20 kilometres from the town centre, despite the positive strides the school was making to provide education in the area.
Mr Mushanga pledged to see how best the matter could be resolved and that Government would continue to prioritise education as  key  to  the country’s development.
Mr  Mushanga was speaking when he visited the school, where he was informed that the  school  only had  one  teacher who was teaching 192 pupils from Grades one to Seven.
The deputy minister said it was important to ensure that schools have qualified teachers to enhance quality education and donated 50 pockets of cement towards the construction of more classrooms at the school as well as for some rehabilitation work.
“After familiarising myself with the challenges at the school, I approached other stakeholders who gave me pockets of cement which I have been donating to various organisations and today I have given Nyenyezi school 50 pockets,” said.
He said he would engage his ministry to address the issues at the school to make it habitable for the pupils.
Muwowo Ward councilor Moses Singombe said the school was the only one in the area and appealed to the Government to send teachers to the school in order to foster quality education.
He said the school has a number of challenges that need to be addressed urgently such as the infrastructure that is dilapidated and the classroom blocks that are inadequate.
“I want to take up this opportunity to call on Government to consider sending some teachers to the school and also to build extra classroom blocks for our pupils,” he said.
Mr Muwowo explained that the situation at the school needed to be looked into as the pupils were learning in a poor environment.
“I am asking the Government to send at least two or three teachers because we even have houses in the area reserved for teachers and that the community is committed to supplement this effort,” he said.
