POLICE in Namwala District have arrested three people in connection with the killing of a 47-year-old man of Shikafwa Village who was shot dead at his house.
Shakopa Shombe was killed on Monday around 20:00 hours a few metres from his house.
The incident happened when Mr Shombe went to check what had happened after he heard gun shots behind his house.
His three wives later heard two gun shots and when one of the man’s sons went to check what was happening, he found his father lying in a pool of blood.
Police rushed to the scene and some of Mr Shombe’s relatives, including one of his sons, were picked for questioning.
Mr Mukomongo named the suspects as Sydney Shombe, 28, Arnold Kasali, 30, of Chibindi Village who was found with a gun, and Sylvester Hamaambo, 51, of Moba Village in Namwala who was also found with a gun, believed to have been the one used to kill Mr Shombe.
The suspects will appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, a cyclist in Namwala died on Wednesday evening after he was knocked down by a motorist.
Southern Province deputy Police chief Patson Mukomongo said the cyclist died on the spot after being hit around 18:15 hours along the Namwala-Choma Road after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Bheki Zulu, 47, of Namwala District, was driving a Mitsubishi vehicle, registration number ESA 5247.
He said Zulu was inexperienced at driving and had no driving licence.
Mr Mukomongo said the cyclist sustained head injuries and a fractured leg.
The body is at Choma General Hospital awaiting post-mortem and burial, while Zulu has been detained and charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
