Dip TankBy Happy Mulolani –

THE construction of two dip tanks at an estimated value of K300,000 has been completed in Zambezi District in North-Western Province.
Department of Veterinary Services principal veterinary officer Jimmy Lubinga  said the rehabilitation works of one dip tank and construction of another had been completed under the 2014 Budget.
Dr Lubinga said rehabilitation works of two more dip tanks were at 95 per cent and will soon be complete, noting that the total number of dip tanks worked on were five.
“The estimated cost of each dip tank is K150,000 and construction works have been progressing well so far and soon the other threedip tanks will be complete,” he said.
Dr Lubinga further explained that out of the five dip tanks, one dip tank was newly constructed while the other four were old ones that had been rehabilitated.
He said the completion of the dip tanks will contribute in the control of disease vectors in the area especially ticks adding that this will play a critical role in controlling the occurrence and spread of tick bone diseases such as anaplasmosis, babesiosis and heart water.
Dr Lubinga said this will also assist in preventing the introduction of East Coast fever in the area during the movement control of livestock.
He urged the farmers to utilise the dip tanks to their advantage and ensure their animals were regularly dipped in order to have healthy animals.-NAIS
