SOUTHERN Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu has called for consistent efforts in equipping physically challenged children with more educational skills to help uplift their living standards.
Mr Mubukwanu said empowering physically challenged children with more skills would enable them contribute effectively to national growth.
He said it was for this reason that the Government had prioritised curriculum activities for the development of disabled children, citing the recent revised national education curriculum.
Mr Mubukwanu was speaking in a speech read for him by deputy provincial Permanent Secretary Douglas Ngimbu in Choma during an art exhibition for learners of educational needs held at Mulumba Special School of Education.
“I hope to see a future that will integrate such activities fully in the mainstream of learners. As we have activities for the able-bodied, let’s rethink inclusion and make it a reality,” he said.
The event was held under the theme ‘Full participation in co-curricular activities for development of a disabled child’.
Mr Mubukwanu said the Government was fulfilling the revised educational curriculum which was focusing on vocational pathways promoting creative arts, technology and physical education.
Provincial education officer Florence Chikalekale called on children to take education seriously and ensure they worked hard to contribute to both personal and national development.
Scores of physically challenged children drawn from various schools participated in sporting activities while others showcased their skills through singing and dancing.
