THE Southern Water and Sewerage Company (SWASCO) has completed installing 2, 000 Automated Meter Recorders (AMRs) in Livingstone’s Dambwa and part of Zambezi Sawmills area.
The project, which started in 2013, was funded by the Devolution Trust Fund (DTF) at a cost of K2.6 million
SWASCO corporate affairs manager Liversage Mulinda said the Dambwa Water Supply Project had been completed and it would be commissioned by Local Government and Housing Minister John Phiri today.
Southern Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu would also attend the commissioning of the project.
Mr Mulinda said in an interview the project had to do with network replacement and metering using 2, 000 AMRs for a corresponding number of households in Dambwa and part of Zambezi Sawmills.
“The project started in 2013 and it was initially supposed to be completed within a period of six months.
But the project has taken a bit of time because of logistical challenges especially with the procurement of these special meters,” he said.
The newly installed facilities were advanced and appropriate for the benefiting communities.
“As you may know, the AMRs use the frequency to read the meters and also to disconnect, meaning a person uses a data logger to get readings from the meters without having to physically go and read the meter.
At the same time, a person can use the same gadget to disconnect meters that are due for connection,” he said.
