32 immigrants arrested

THE Immigration Department has arrested 32 foreigners this week while 33 have been deported.
Among the 32, are nine Congolese arrested for unlawful entry in Mansa, nine Malawians who were arrested in Chipata for trading without permits and six Zimbabweans.
Another Malawian and two Ugandans were also arrested for unlawful entry in Chirundu.
Immigration Department spokesperson, Namati Nshinka said in Lusaka yesterday that two other Malawians and a Mozambique national were also arrested for unlawful stay in Luangwa while another Malawian was detained in Mfuwe for unlawful entry and stay.
Among the 23 that were deported during the week, were six Tanzanians escorted out of the country by the Solwezi regional Immigration office while six Congolese were sent back to their countries by the Mansa office.
In Lusaka, two Ethiopians and a Liberian were deported for the same offence.
Meanwhile, a Congolese woman has been arrested for fraudulently acquiring a Zambian National Registration Card (NRC).
Patricia Potter Ngwewe was apprehended at the passports office while applying for a Zambian passport.
Mr Nshinka said Ngwewe was found with a Zambian NRC with registration number 243346/24/1 originally belonging to Mario Yaluombe.
“Patricia has been detained along with Kayivwa Kisola, the man alleged to have assisted her to obtain the NRC,” Mr Nshinka said.
