AWARD-WINNING writer Bwalya Mutale is set to launch his newly-produced DVD titled Chinkobwe Umwaume Chintomfwa, a movie which is anchored on gender-based violence (GBV).
The 2002 Ngoma Award winner is appealing to well-wishers to help him raise finances to secure the venue, Lusaka’s Alliance Francaise,
he told Weekend Times Entertainment in Lusaka.
Chinkombe Umwaume Chintomfwa is a story centred on a wayward husband who used to have a good job where he earned a good salary but spent his money on women.
His children even had to stop attending school.
He would lie to his wife that he had gone to attend a seminar while in reality he would be visiting one of his mistresses in the townships.
As fate would have it, he was one day caught by his wife coming from a makeshift bathroom putting on only a towel.
Without shame he told his wife that he was in that area to consult a witchdoctor who Was going to give him some charms so that he could be promoted at work.
In his typical waywardness, Chintonfwa impregnated a girl but lied to his wife that it was one of his nephews who was responsible for the pregnancy.
His wife allowed the girl to live in their home until she delivered but Chintonfwa would sneak into the girl’s room at night.
Frustrated with the husbands’ behaviour, the wife decided to consult a witchdoctor but because she could not follow the instructions given to her by the medicine man, Chintomfwa became very sick.
Produced by Jaffet Chongo, this Touch Media production highlights the ills of defilement and sexual harassment in the country.
Bwalya Mutale is also the author of books such as Shalinsanga, a book that talks about inequality in society, Ubufumu Ne mibele ya pang’wena and No Ushalimo Akabamo, among others.
