RTSA increases road tax

THE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has increased road tax and traffic fees by about 50 per cent.
The increase which was effected on Monday this week is in line with Statutory Instrument (SI) number 41 of the 2015 on unit fees.
According to the revised chart obtained from RTSA offices in Ndola yesterday road tax for all vehicle categories and traffic fees have been increased by 50 per cent.
The affected traffic fees include those for driving instructors and schools fees, test certificates, fitness, driving tests and issuance of licences.
Following the changes the road tax for all motor vehicles weighing more than 1.200 tonnes but less than 1.4 tonnes is now K135 per quarter from the K90 per two quarter and the tax has been increased from K247 to K450 for a full year.
All vehicles with weight exceeding six tonnes but less than nine tonnes will attract a road tax of K240 per quarter and K800 for the full year.
Motor vehicle dealers’ licence for a full year will go at K1,667.00 while a full year for all motor cycles is K50.
Fitness examination of motor vehicles which was at K30 is now K46 per 156 units while the issuance of a provision license which was at K42 is now K64.
Test certificate for appeal to the director per 192 unit is K38.40, duplicate test certificate per 96 unit is K19 and vehicle examination per 192 was K38.40.
For Public Service Vehicle (PSV) user licence application is now K72 per 240 unit and the road service licence fee and endorsement of road service licence is at K144.
Registration of licensing of motor vehicles and trailers have also been increased by 50 per cent.
Driving schools and instructors fees are now K144 and K360 respectively while test for competence for instructors’ licence and
variation of licence is K120 per 400 units.
