By MILDRED KATONGO –

Solwezi Municipal Council has embarked on a project to construct a mourning shelter and other support infrastructure at the newly-opened Kimiteto cemetery at more than K400,000.
Council public relations officer Thandiwe Tembo said in an interview that apart from the mourning shelter, the local authority would build ablution facilities, an office, a flower shop, a borehole and a hand pump.
Ms Tembo said the borehole and hand pump had already been done while the mourners’ shelter, ablution facilities, office and the flower shop would be completed by the end of next month.
She said the local authority was working tirelessly to ensure that the construction was done soon.
The new graveyard was opened after the old Kimasala cemetery was full.
The local authority has since banned people from burying their beloved ones at the old cemetery.
Ms Tembo warned people who were still burying their loved ones at the closed Kimasala graveyard that they risked being arrested. -ZANIS
