A TURKISH business community is set to construct a multi-million dollar international secondary school in Ndola on the Copperbelt.
Horizon Education Trust chairperson Goksal Cavdaro said the Turkish business community found Zambia to have a friendly investment environment, hence the desire to invest in the education sector.
Mr Cavdaro said in interview in Ndola that the school would offer free bursaries and sponsorship as pupils would be given an opportunity to study in Turkey once they completed their secondary education.
“We are constructing a school in Ndola this year with the help of the Turkey business community. The pupils enrolled at our school will be offered bursaries and sponsorship to study from Turkey,” he said.
He said the organisation had already started preparations for the project but was waiting for council approval over land where the school would be constructed.
Ndola Mayor Samuel Munthali said the council had identified land in Mishishi where the Turkey’s Horizon Education Trust would build the international secondary school.
Mr Munthali said the local authority responded to the request from Horizon Education Trust to identify land in Ndola where an international school would be constructed.
He said with help from the Ministry of Lands, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the process to formalise and gazette the area identified to erect an international school would be quick.
Mr Munthali said the Turkey business community was investing in the country to help sustain and grow the education sector.
He urged the investors to consider enrolling and support the less privileged once the school was constructed and became operational.
