Housing authority builds 350 houses

A REAL estate developer, National Housing Authority (NHA) MKP has completed constructing of 350 housing units in Lusaka to assist cushion the critical housing deficit that the country faces.
NHA MKP is a joint venture between NHA and MKP.
NHA MKP Chief Executive Officer Charles Holland said the firm will hold a pre-sale launch at their Northgate Gardens Housing estate off Kasungula Road in Lusaka tomorrow.
This is according to a statement obtained by Times of Zambia in Lusaka yesterday.
The launch will showcase 24 complete housing units out of the 136 currently under construction, after successfully completing 316 units for the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) and 40 units for Workers Compensation Fund Control Board.
The company has also built housing units at the Presidential Housing initiative site and Ibex Hill residential area.
Experts have observed that Zambia is suffering from a serious housing shortage that is worsening as the population grows.
The National Housing Policy document of 1996 identified a need for more than 860,000 housing units and recommended construction of more 110,000 units per year.
Zambia at the moment is experiencing a housing deficit in excess of three million units.
Mr Hollard said that the company was committed to building quality but affordable housing units in the country.
“In the process the company has created employment in the areas it has projects. At the recently completed project the company had more than 450 workers. The current project employs over 200 people many of them women,” he said.
