A FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD boy of Chingola has been found guilty of causing the death of a two-year-old girl by dangerous driving.
The boy, a grade eight pupil, was found guilty by Judge Mary Mulanda after admitting to the charge during hearing of the case in Ndola yesterday.
He committed the offence on November 10, last year in Mufulira while driving a Toyota registration number 2926 on Kawama East Road.
He was driving from house number DJ 39 Kawama East into the main road where he hit into some children who were playing and proceeded to hit into a house.
One of the children died on the spot after being hit by the vehicle and a postmortem confirmed that the girl died as a result of severe injuries.
Assistant Ndola social welfare officer Paxina Kaonga said the boy was from a broken home and did not understand the outcome of the offence.
Ms Kaonga said the boy was remorseful of his actions and did not intentionally kill the girl but that it was an accident.
She recommended that the boy be sent to Nakambala Reformatory Centre where he would be made a better person and learn some skill.
The legal aid team said the boy was a first offender who was entitled to maximum leniency.
They said institutionalising the juvenile would be severe punishment that would be used when other forms of punishment were offered in vain.
They proposed that the child be put on probation or fined.
Ms Justice Mulanda set tomorrow as the day of setting order in the case.
