By ADRIAN MWANZA –
ABOUT 10, 000 houses will be built for Police officers to improve their accommodation, Inspector General, Stella Libongani has said.
This follows complaints by some Police officers that the deplorable state of staff houses in Police camps countrywide had dampened their morale.
The officers said it was unfortunate that Police officers had for a long time been living in inhabitable conditions.

But Ms Libongani said said the Ministry of Home Affairs would construct 10,000 housing units for Police officers and other officers in the ministry, which will alleviate their accommodation problems.
She said the programme would be spread in all the 10 provinces and implemented in phases starting with 2,000 houses.
She said some houses in Police camps would be refurbished to acceptable standards.
“Some houses in Police camps will be given a facelift in order to improve the living standards of Police officers in the parts of the country,” she said.
The officers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Police houses were in shambles as most of them had cracks and posed a danger to their lives.
One officer from Luanshya Central Police Camp said the houses in the camp left much to be desired as they either had serious cracks or damaged roofs.
He said it was unfortunate that Police officers were overlooked even when they were the ones that maintained peace in the country.
Another officer from Chawama Township in Lusaka called on the Ministry of Home Affairs to expedite the process of constructing housing units for officers in the ministry as the situation was bad.
She said Police officers were at the moment demoralised to carry out their duties diligently because of the housing crisis.
“It is hard for us to execute our duties diligently because of this accommodation crisis most of us are facing,” she said.
She said some Police officers lived in ram shackles together with their families and that this was the trend in most rural parts of the country.
