Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Minister Yamfwa Mukanga, who confirmed this, said the contractor would move on site once the funds were available.
Construction of the new international airport is expected to cost about K4.4 billion (US$580 million) and will be built in phases.
“AVIC will construct the new international airport. We are just awaiting the availability of funds and the construction process would begin,” Mr Mukanga said.
The minister said the new airport was expected to be constructed between Ndola, Mufulira and Kitwe.
The Government announced plans to relocate the airport more than two years ago because the current location has no room for expansion.
Meanwhile,  Mr Mukanga said the Government would soon issue a Statutory Instrument to compel all business houses operating in Zambia to have physical postal addresses unlike the current set-up where some business houses  did not have a fixed aboard.
“We are now encouraging all the business houses to have postal office addresses so that mails could be delivered to their respective offices,” Mr Mukanga said.
He urged all the business houses who would want to do business in Zambia to ensure they have a physical postal box address within the country.
Recently, Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) embarked on the national addressing and postcode project aimed at capturing address details of all properties in the country for the establishment of a national address database.
The national address postcode project started in Chingola, Kabwe, Kitwe, Ndola and Lusaka.
