MTN-ZAMBIA has donated K100,000 to the Kulamba traditional ceremony to help preserve cultural heritage of the Chewa people of Katate, Eastern Province.
Chief sales and contribution officer Amon Jere said the investment was aimed at uplifting the lives of the people and the community in their lives and work.
Mr Jere said this during the hand-over of a K50,000 cheque to the Kulamba organising committee chairperson yesterday while the remaining K50,000 would be channelled towards logistics, including marketing of the event taking place this Saturday,.
Mr Jere said MTN believed that Eastern Province had great potential to contribute significantly to national growth, hence the need for infrastructure investment, especially in areas of transport and communication.
Mr Jere said MTN’s focus would continue to be on creating social and economic opportunities by investing in products and services that supported Eastern Province’s economic mainstay, including agriculture.
The MTN mobile money had for a long time now helped small-scale farmers that had no bank accounts through saving, sending and receiving money, getting paid as well as purchasing goods and services using a mobile phone.
Kulamba organising committee chairperson Masiye Banda said the ceremony was commemorated by three countries – Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.
