By EMMANUEL ZIMBA –
THE Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) has dispelled rumours that the water shortage which hit some parts of the city three days ago was caused by massive load-shedding.
LWSC public relations manager Topsy Sikalinda said stories that were published in some sections of the media suggesting that the water shortage was due to power failure were not true.
Mr Sikalinda said that the company carried out a normal maintenance operation in some parts of the city.
He said that LWSC decided to carry out maintenance in order to improve the water challenges that some parts of the city were experiencing.
“We carried a normal maintenance exercise in some parts of the city and we finished the works at mid-night and some members of the media were invited to be with us on the site we were working from,” he said.
Mr Sikalinda said LWSC would continue to update members of the general public if there is any problem.
He said the water utility company had completed the maintenance exercise and normal water supply had been restored in all the townships.
Mr Sikalinda said there was no sign that the situation was to get worse in a few months to come and that the situation was likely to improve.
