ZESCO Limited plans to construct a 330-kilovolts (KV) transmission line which will run from Kabwe to Pensulo substation in Serenge in Central Province.
This is in its quest to boost electricity transmission and supply in the country.
The transmission line will run from Kabwe Step-down substation to Pensulo.
This is according to Zesco’s invitation for bids for engineering procurement and construction of the 330kv Kabwe Step-down-Pensulo transmission line, which appeared in the media recently.
This is contrary to the initial article that the information was released in a statement by Zesco senior manager, procurement, Brian Kambole.
The bid invitation states that once completed, the power line would increase the power transfer capacity and provide security supply in Eastern, Northern, Muchinga and Luapula provinces.
“The scope of work will  include extension of 330 KV double busbar at Kabwe  Step-down substation, installation of a 330 KV line bay at Kabwe Step-down substation including associated projection, control and metering  systems,” states the invitation.
It states that other works would include the construction of a 300km single circuit 330KV transmission line from Kabwe Step-down to Pensulo and construction of staff houses at Pensulo substation, among others.
Zesco has since invited companies to submit tenders for the engineering procurement and construction of the transmission line.
According to the bids invitation, to meet the country’s power requirements, new plants, upgrades and repairs are necessary.
The power utility company has been upgrading power transmission lines to increase the capacity of electricity.
