Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Chishimba Kambwili said President Edgar Lungu was being attacked by the members of the opposition political parties over the work that civil servants had failed to do.
“Government will not tolerate people who are not supporting efforts being made in ensuring that various developmental projects are implemented without any delay.
“We cannot have a situation where the opposition is attacking President Lungu because of the negative attitude by some civil servants. If you are tired of working, give way to others,” Mr Kambwili said.
Mr Kambwili said this when he inspected the construction of Roan youth resource centre, Roan District Hospital, Kawama Bridge and clinics in Luanshya yesterday.
He expressed disappointment at the pace at which the construction of the youth resource centre was progressing.
Mr Kambwili said civil servants should be in the forefront spearheading Government projects and ensuring that contractors are doing their job.
He said people were saying Government had failed to perform because the people in charge were not efficiently working to achieve Government’s goals.
Mr Kambwili said contractors who were not completing the construction of works on time should not be awarded more contracts.
He said this was frustrating Government’s efforts in ensuring that there was infrastructure development in the country.
Youth and Sport Permanent Secretary Agness Musunga said her ministry would look into the matter and ensure that the youth resource centre was completed on time.
Ms Musunga said she was not happy that K2.2 million spent on the construction of the youth centre so far had not ensured any progress.
