THE First Lady’s Office has hailed Airtel Zambia for exhibiting commitment in assisting the needy in society.
This was after Airtel donated 90 hospital mattresses worth K40,000 to various health centers countrywide.
Receiving the mattresses on behalf of First Lady Esther Lungu’s office, Priscilla Masiloko said the gesture by Airtel was commendable as it helped to provide interventions that aimed to improve the living standards of the people especially those in rural areas.
She said the First Lady was happy to note that corporating partners such as Airtel and Stanbic Bank among others, were working for a good cause in addressing the plight of the vulnerable in the country.
“I would like to thank Airtel for providing the mattresses as well as Stanbic for facilitating the shipment of the beds to Zambia. As the First Lady’s office, we would also like to thank the WANETA organisation for mobilising resources and finding partners in Airtel and Stanbic to make this donation happen,” Ms Masiloko said.
Handing over some of the mattresses to Chris Nyalugwe Memorial Clinic in Lusaka West yesterday, Airtel managing director Peter Correia emphasised the need for a healthy population to help develop the country.
Mr Correia said this in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday by Airtel head of corporate communications and government relations Yuyo Nachali-Kambikambi.
Mr Correia said Airtel was proud to be associated with projects that helped alleviate health challenges that various communities faced.
“Today we are in one of the remote areas of Lusaka to give a helping hand and are happy to be donating 90 hospital mattresses valued at K40, 000 which will benefit various clinics across the country, with Chris Nyalugwe Memorial Clinic being one of the recipients. We know that many clinics across the 10 provinces are faced with numerous challenges so we hope our humble donation today will go a long way in cushioning some of these challenges,” Mr Correia said.
Some of the rural clinics that will benefit from this donation included Solwezi Clinic in Solwezi, Nalolo Health Center in Western Province, Masaiti Clinic on the Copperbelt and Chiwala Health center in the Lower Zambezi.
