BARCLAYS Bank Zambia has partnered with Shoprite and Pick n’ Pay to offer cash withdraw using the point of sale terminals through a Cash Back product.
Traditionally, the point of sale terminals is used to process card payments at retail locations and transfer the funds from the customer’s bank account to the seller’s account.
Barclays Bank managing director Saviour Chibiya said the bank entered into a partnership with Pick n’ Pay and Shoprite to offer both card payments and withdraw services to the customers of the shops through the point of sale terminals.
“We have realised that the Automated Teller Machines (ATM) as much as we have a large distribution network across the country, they might not be as convenient as the point of sale terminals found in Shoprite, for instance, who have a wide distribution network and they have become our partner.
“You can go to the point of sale in Shoprite and, through a product we call Cash Back, you can withdraw cash from your account using the point of sale in the shop,” Mr Chibiya said.
He said in Solwezi that they would also partner with other institutions that received cash so that Barclays Bank customers could be able to have the flexibility to withdraw cash as they bought using the point of sale terminals.
“We have partnered with Shoprite and Pick n’ Pay and we will also partner with other institutions that receive cash so that you are able to have the flexibility to withdraw cash as you shop and this is part of the flexibility and innovation we have invested in and it is quite important,” Mr Chibiya said.
He said the banking service was no longer restricted in going into the banking hall, saying that with the latest technology clients could be able to access their banking services through their mobile phones and on the Internet.
Mr Chibiya said they had also upgraded the ATM systems to make it easier for their clients, adding that customers could now be able to withdraw and deposit cash using the ATMs.
In addition, customers and non-Barclay’s customers can use the ATM to send money.
