Let’s pray

IT is very easy for one to render themselves irrelevant to society, even without compelling circumstances.
This can happen if one becomes too cynical and adopts a peculiar perception which is at variance with reality.
What we are saying is that the evidence abounds of how God prospers and heals the land of a nation that humbly surrenders to Him in repentance.
The proclamation by President Edgar Lungu of October 18, 2015 as the Day of National Prayer, Fasting and Repentance is the best news to have occurred this year.
It is, therefore, shocking that at a time when the whole nation is beaming with zeal to observe the day, some people can’t see the value and opt to stay away.
As the country grapples with various problems, a wise leader like Mr Lungu had to seek God’s intervention because the solutions could only come from above.
The United States surrendered to God over 200 years ago and to them, everything they do, they depend on God for triumph or victory.
The Americans may be judged harshly from another perspective, but the underlining factor is that the nation is prosperous because God is on top of their business.
However, that is not to mean that inequity does not exist there. It exists so much, but God raises the standard.
The Soviet Union was a superpower, but it fell and America remained afloat because the relationship with Jesus Christ was not sound.
In the Bible, when the children of Israel realised that the misfortunes kept on multiplying because they had kept themselves far away from God, they said in Hosea 6: 1-2 “ Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces; now he will heal us. He has injured us; now he will bandage our wounds.” 2 In just a short time, he will restore us, so that we may live in his presence”.
And God, being faithful and abounding in mercy, has promised in 2Chronicles 7:14 saying; “ Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sins and restore (or heal) their land”.
When Zambia was declared a Christian nation by President Chiluba over 20 years ago, the nation took it casually and failed to support it with good deeds befitting of a Christian nation. And some things might not have pleased God, yet He had taken the covenant seriously, inspired by the Holy Spirit.
This is why trouble keeps multiplying by the day and Zambia has to return to the Lord since it’s a covenant nation.
It is, therefore, sad that when an opportunity has come for all to rally together and look to God, some people want to play politics and opt to shun the event and worsestill discourage others from joining in the hour of national salvation.
We can’t agree more with Evangelical Youth Alliance International (EYAI) president Reverend Moses Lungu who said some of the opposition leaders are afraid because they know that when the nation’s healing comes, they would have no deficiency to cite for their political mileage.
It is unfortunate and this is how people render themselves irrelevant to the nation because well-meaning Zambians will always embrace a God-fearing leadership.
Consequently, the Love of God will abound and secure the nation from all ills.  COMMENT
