POLITICAL activist Clement Tembo has said the creation of 500,000 jobs for the youth by 2016 as pronounced by President Edgar Lungu is achievable provided the private sector and other players come on board.
Mr Tembo said in an interview yesterday that the private sector and other players should not just leave the task to the Government to create job opportunities for the youth in the country, but participate in this important national task.
“It is possible for Zambia to create 500,000 jobs for the youth if the private sector and other business persons in Zambia employ two or more people in their businesses.  Through this, Government’s target would be achieved,” Mr Tembo said.
He urged youths in the country to be proactive and inquire with the Ministry of Youths, Sports and Child Development on how they could access the youth funds for them to venture in sustainable businesses that would create jobs for others and improve their lives.
Mr Tembo also appealed to the ministry to ensure that it widely publicised the sensitisation on the process of how to get the Youth Empowerment Funds to the eligible persons in the country including those in the remote areas.
“The empowerment should not only be for the youth in urban areas but all those youths who are in rural areas should have access to ensure that they are empowered and improve their lives,” he said.
Mr Tembo who is also aspiring for the Kabwata Constituency seat in 2016, said it was high time that the youth took up the key roles of developing the country.
“It is high time we the youth take up key decision-making positions in politics and economy to develop the country to the next golden jubilee,” he said.
He gave examples of some of the programmes that he was undertaking in Kabwata Constituency and other areas in Lusaka where he had been helping several marketeers with capital to start up or enhance their businesses.
