A MANSA magistrates’ court has sentenced a 47-year-year-old man to nine months imprisonment for trespassing at his ex-wife’s home and issuing death threats.
Appearing before magistrate George Mulenga was Peter Mpundu a bicycle repairer of Dasto Village in Chief Kalasa Lukangaba’s area, who was convicted on one count of criminal trespass.
Mpundu on September 15, 2015 visited his ex-wife Margaret Chilefwaya, 35, at her home in Lukakula Village, of Chief Kalasa Lukangaba at 19:30 hours in the evening.
Ms Chilefwaya’s 15-year-old daughter Ella testified that when she returned home that same evening, she noticed a person standing on the doorway of their family home.
Fearing for her safety, she rushed to call her mother who was at the neighbour’s house. Ms Chilefwaya began searching for Mpundu whom she found exiting from the toilet located outside the house.
She enquired to establish the nature of his unexpected visit to which she was met with a tirade of insults from Mpundu.
Mpundu’s abusive language extended late into the night with him making death threats against his ex-wife. Her house was later gutted by fire.
Ms Chilefwaya reported the matter to police.
Police after investigations charged and arrested Mpundu.
