ZAMBIA Development Conference (ZADECO) president Langtone Sichone has said opposition political party alliances should not be formed with the view of removing the party in Government.

Speaking during the week, the ZADECO president also said alliances should not be formed over topical issues at hand stating that alliances were not likely to survive when formed on such grounds.

Commenting on the recently formed alliance, Mr Sichone also said he does not foresee the alliance merging to go as one force in the 2016 elections.

He stated that some of the reasons that would make the opposition political parties fail to merge include insincerity on the part of some opposition political party leaders.

Mr Sichone also stated that some of the reasons that have made it difficult for parties to merge in the past were the failure by the leaders to explain to their followers the need of an alliance.

Mr Sichone, however, said alliances were good as they would help provide check and balances to the Government.

He also said alliances were platforms to tackle substantive issues that help Government correct their positions.

The Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) , Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ), Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED) and (People’s Party) PP last week formed an alliance under the theme “Save Zambia, Zambia deserves better”.
