A NIGERIAN woman accused of murdering her nine-year-old son yesterday appeared in a Lusaka magistrates’ court for the explanation of the charge.
Amaka Obikey, 28, of Kamwala South Township is alleged to have beaten her son Ekena to death after she found out that he was picking food from the rubbish.
She is alleged to have on December 10, 2015 beaten the boy, tied his legs and hands to the bed and left him alone in the house.
His body was found outside the house after he was taken outside with some white stuff coming out of his mouth suspected to have been fresh milk which was used in an effort to resuscitate him.
Obikey was allegeddly angered after he spotted her son picking up dirty nshima from the dust bin.
Chief resident magistrate Aridah Chulu allocated the matter to herself and explained the charge to Obikey.
Ms Chulu informed Obikey that she would continue appearing before her for mention until such a time when instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP)’s chambers would be received to have her committed to the High Court where the offence will be tried.
She adjourned the case to January 6, 2015 for mention.
