A CLERGYMAN and a civic leader in Kabwe have condemned the dumping of coffins outside Zambia Prisons Service commissioner general, Percy Chato’s residence.
They described the act which shocked Mr Chato’s family and members of the public in Luangwa Township as evil and the worst form of cowardice.
Kabwe Chapel Bishop, Boniface Shonga said the dumping of coffins at the gate and an unknown object within the yard was meant to instill fear in Mr Chato and his family.
Bishop Shonga urged the people involved in the act to repent and seek God’s forgiveness.
He said threats on innocent people through evil acts were not the best way to resolve any issues.
He said if there were people who felt offended by the Chato family, there was no need to hide behind uncivilised acts, but to seek audience with Mr Chato and address any matter.
“It is clear that the people who dropped that creature-like thing with horns and the three small coffins are those who have issues with the Chato family, but the best way to resolve this matter is for them to come out in the open,” Bishop Shonga said.
He said those in a habit of involving themselves in weird, unChristian acts should repent, and urged Mr Chato and his family to remain prayerful.
Kabwe Mayor Richard Bango called for harmony in communities instead of engaging in bizarre acts to scare people.
Mr Bango was saddened by continuing reports of some people instilling fear in others in Kabwe.
Central Province deputy commissioner of Police Yobe Luhana said investigations into the matter had continued, but no arrests had been made so far.
Not long ago, a small coffin with a list of names was found at Chowa Police Camp in Kabwe and later, a python was found outside a Police officer’s gate.
