THE decision to choose a running mate for the Patriotic Front (PF) for this year’s election is with President Edgar Lungu, Vice-President Inonge Wina has said.
Ms Wina said President Lungu will, at an appropriate time, state who his running mate for this year’s election will be.
“For the running mate, the prerogative is with President Lungu. He will choose at the appropriate time,” she said.
Ms Wina said this on the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC)’s Sunday interview programme on Sunday evening.
Ms Wina said she would also state at an appropriate time if she would contest the Nalolo Constituency seat.
She said whatever the case, the PF would definitely scoop the seat in the legislative polls.
Ms Wina said the PF administration had performed well in Nalolo, which included designating it as a district in 2013.
The Vice-President also said the ruling party was investigating whether its party members were involved in the alleged violent conduct against Matero Member of Parliament and Democratic Front (DF) leader Miles Sampa at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola recently.
Ms Wina said the party was already investigating the alleged involvement of PF members in the fracas.
She said no one could say for certain that the cadres were from the PF as it could be any group of people that were aggrieved by him.
Ms Wina said the violent threats against Mr Sampa were uncalled for and should not be tolerated.
She said violence was not necessary in Zambia and the citizens should do more to protect the country from violence.
“Zambians are playing around with tribal remarks, skirmishes and violent talk. We need to guard what we say so that we do not land the country in anarchy,” Ms Wina said.
