NDOLA  – ZESCO United midfielder Kondwani Mtonga says he greatly welcomes French club Sochaux’s interest in him.

Ex-Zambia coach Herve Renard is reportedly tracking the 27-year-old midfielder who got his big break under the Frenchman earlier this year.

Kondwani said he is delighted with news of interest from Renard and was keeping his fingers crossed on that prospective move.

“I heard about that news from my coach (Renard) and I just pray to God that it works well,” Kondwani said.

“That is one of my ambitions I would like to play abroad very soon and God willing it will happen.”

The defensive midfielder made his Zambia debut under Renard in a friendly against Zimbabwe in April this year on his way earning 17 caps.

Kondwani’s major claim to fame came during the 2014 FIFA World Cup Group D qualifiers in June when he served with some distinction as a converted central defender under ex-coach Herve Renard in place of the injured Stopilla Sunzu against Lesotho and Sudan.

However, Zesco have said they have yet to receive any official communication from Sochaux despite Renard’s interest in bringing the utility midfielder to France.

And Zesco United have invited Ajax Cape Town for an international club friendly next month in Zambia.

Zesco chief executive officer Justin Mumba told MTNFootball.com that talks were progressing well with the PSL club over the proposed friendly that is billed for Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Mumba said the friendly will be played outside the four-club international tournament to be held at the same venue between the dates of January 11-15 that will involve another PSL club Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Ajax Cape Town too are interested to come but of course not for the tournament but only for a friendly,” Mumba told MTNFootball.com.

“What they have told us is if they are to come, they can come on the 14th of January and stay up to January 20 so we still have to work out something.”

And Mumba disclosed that DR Congo club Don Bosco and Zambian club Power Dynamos are the other two teams that will take part in the four-club international tournament.

Meanwhile, Zesco are also courting Egyptian giants Zamalek and Mozambique champions Liga Muculmana for pre-season friendly games in Ndola.

The pre-season friendly programme is part of Zesco’s buildup for their 2014 CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

Zesco are on bye from the preliminary round of the 2014 Confederation Cup and will enter the fray in the first round during last weekend of February.

The three-time Zambian champions will await winner of the Ferroviário Beira of Mozambique versus Tanzanian club Azam preliminary round fixture.
