By PASSY HAACHIZO –  THREE people of the same family have died after they were struck by lightning while working in a crop field in Mukonchi area of Kapiri-Mposhi. The incident happened on Friday last week around 15:00 hours. Central Province Police commissioner Lombe Kamukoshi, said in a statement yesterday that lightning struck the four people, instantly killing three, leaving one seriously injured. Lilian Nanyangwe 36, her daughter Bertha Nawakwi, 18, together with her six year-old grand daughter Blessings Mwape met their fate while cultivating in their field. “Having been struck by lightning, Lilian sustained a cut on the right eyebrow whereas, her daughter Bertha, sustained bruises on the left side of the forehead,” Ms Kamukoshi said. She, however, said Paul Siwakwi who is one year-six-months old, was still alive even after being struck by the lightning. Paul was on his mother’s back, Ms Nanyangwe, when the incident happened. Ms Kamukoshi said the bodies of the deceased were at the Kapiri-Mposhi District Hospital mortuary while the boy was nursing a swollen face at the Kapiri-Mposhi Clinic.
