THE Netball Association of Zambia (NAZ) has asked the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) to give players a talk on the dangers of substance abuse as they host the NAZ Open at Olympic Youth Development Centre in Lusaka.
More than 60 clubs from across the country are expected to take part in the tournament.
NAZ general secretary Prichard Ngoma said the tournament was one of the biggest on the NAZ calendar and would offer an opportunity to the participants to showcase their skills.
“The tournament will offer participants an opportunity to showcase their talent; it will be good as all the participants will have to do their best to fight for top honours as the season starts,” he said.
He said the association had invited DEC to educate athletes on the dangers of drug abuse, among other vices.
“The tournament will try and change the face of the sport as we start bringing in these partners like the DEC to talk to our players.
“We shall have a lot of youths in this tournament and we will use it to identify players for the Zambia Under-20 who have qualifiers in Botswana as well as Region-Five Under-20,” he said.
He said Zambia had also been invited to take part in the Singapore Invitation Rankings tournament set for September this year.
Ngoma said the tournament was important as it would give a chance to the technical bench to get further training on advancements in the game.
