PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has cautioned the media against being unprofessional in their reporting especially during the campaign period or risk losing credibility and business.
Speaking at Lusaka’s City Airport on arrival from Muchinga Province yesterday, the Head of State said the media had an important role to play especially during the run-up to the August 11 general elections.
He said some media organisations in the print sector had lost credibility and business from the general public because of unprofessionalism.
“When you report, we listen to you but please let’s learn to tell the truth, Zambians now know which media house is telling the truth and you will be respected when you balance stories and tell the truth,” he said
The President made reference to a named newspaper which he said used to sell like hot cakes but had lost business due to the compromised reporting, especially for lying about him.
You don’t have to love or hate me in this profession, you just have to tell the truth and you will earn your credibility.
The President also reaffirmed his commitment towards ensuring that Zambia recorded yet another free and fair general election.
He said he would not stop preaching peace ahead of elections during the campaigns and that he would make sure the Police was well equipped and trained to quell and violent situation.
