Mpombo - bigBy MILDRED KATONGO  –
A FOURTY-YEAR-OLD woman has testified in the Ndola High Court how her daughter went missing and found dead with her body cut in two pieces.
This is in a matter in which former Defence Minister George Mpombo’s 17 year old son is charged with murder and attempted aggravated robbery contrary to the Laws of Zambia.
Mpombo’s son is alleged to have stolen his father’s nine-millimetre pistol which he used to kill his pregnant girlfriend Ruth Phiri.
Rabecca Banda the mother of the deceased, said when the matter came up that on January 11, around 15:00 hours, the deceased did not tell her parents where she was going and did not come back.
Ms Banda said the following morning she got worried and asked her sister to call the deceased but her mobile phone was  off.
She said after the disappearance of her daughter, the family decided to report the matter to Chifubu Police station.
“My daughter did not tell me where she was going on that fateful day. She never came back and I got worried the following morning because she has never spent a night elsewhere. I asked her sister to call her but her phone was off,” she testified.
Ms Banda said the accused said the deceased called him around 01:00 hours saying that she was attacked.
She explained that the juvenile told her that the deceased could have been killed and dumped in the bush in Chiwala.
Ms Banda said that is how the juvenile was taken to the police for questioning.
In count two, it is alleged that the juvenile on January 16, armed with a firearm, attempted to rob Lewis Mpundu of his property.
Judge Emelia Sunkutu adjourned the matter to May 30 for continued cross examination and trial.
