•PRESIDENT Lungu addresses a rally in Rufunsa yesterday – Picyure By THOMAS NSAMA/STATE HOUSE

By JAMES KUNDA –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has urged the people of Rufunsa District to ignore opposition political party leaders who are campaigning on falsehoods to win cheap mileage ahead of the August 11, general elections.
The Head of State said opposition political parties had been visiting the area campaigning on the pretext that the Patriotic Front (PF) was no longer a pro-poor party as it was plotting to grab land from peasant farmers to construct public property.
“Please do not be cheated because the land in question was allocated by her Royal Highness Chieftainess Mpanshya who gave Government 2,000 hectares of land to develop Rufunsa after it was declared as a new district.
“The PF is a listening Government because we believe that development is achieved through dialogue, that is why we will talk to the affected people and compensate them after this farming year and the harvest,” he said.
Mr Lungu said this when he held a public rally in the area to drum up support for the PF.
The President, who arrived in Rufunsa which is located in Lusaka Province just before 15:00 for a day’s working visit, was accompanied to the event by Government and party officials and State House staff.
President Lungu earlier toured Government developmental projects and
paid a courtesy call on Chieftainess Mpanshya of the Soli people.
He said people in the area should not be cheated by individuals who have always been criticising the policy direction of the ruling party.
“They were saying PF is the acronym for paya (kill) farmer but we are the only country in the region with a bumper maize harvest.
“We prayed, God gave us the rains and very soon FRA (Food Reserve Agency) will be buying maize at a new price of K85 per 50 kilogramme bag while farming inputs will also be delivered on time,” Mr Lungu
said.
He said the PF was in existence to aid all Zambians improve their livelihood and founding leader Michael Sata already laid the foundation for the programme during his tenure of office.
Mr Lungu said from the time that he took over from his predecessor, he has worked tirelessly to ensure that the people of Zambia have access to the basic needs that support human life.
The Head of State said he was born and bred in a remote locality thus was fully aware of the challenges that people face in leading a comfortable livelihood.
“I do not expect praise from the opposition even though I know that some of them are secretly praising me as disclosed by Austin Chewe (former MMD Kabwe Central Member of Parliament (MP) who was also present at the event.
“So come August 11, please go and vote for the PF at all levels including that of MP and councillor so that the development that you have been seeing can continue,” the President said.
He urged the people of Rufunsa to remain peaceful because Zambians did not want violent people in the realms of leadership.
Mr Lungu also used the event to unveil PF Rufunsa aspiring MP Kenneth Chipungu along with aspiring councillors and all the elective political office aspirants knelt before the crowd soliciting for votes.
PF Secretary General Davies Chama, Central Committee member Samuel Mukupa, Captain Chewe and Christian Democratic Party president Dan Pule were some of the people who also spoke at the rally.
Dr Pule announced that he will on July 4, 2016 initiate a 40-day period of prayer and fasting for President Lunge to scoop the presidential poll.
