First Lady to take part in Inter Company Relay

FIRST Lady Esther Lungu will be among the hundreds of runners that will take part in today’s Multi-Choice Zambia-sponsored Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) Inter-Company Relay (ICR) in the Lusaka Showgrounds.
This will be the 18th edition of the ICR.
The First Lady will compete in the 100metres Chief Executive Officer (CEO)’s dash alongside some leading CEO’s like Multi-Choice Operations Manager Recha Kabwe.
Other expected are Airtel Human Resource Manager Bwebya Chikonde, Zambia State Insurance Corporation assistant manager Bridget Mulenga and Cecilia Mulenga of National Assembly.
Zambia Sugar plc is back and on firm ground to defend the title though they will not have it easy reclaiming the title as they will face stiff competition from other participant’s vying for the top overall prize.
Among the notable companies that will give Zambia Sugar a good run for their money is National Airport Corporation, who is the former ICR champion.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, ICR Marketing Manager Stella Omara said the event had attracted at least 50 companies.
Omara said this year’s competition had seen an increase in the number of participants, compared to the previous year adding that the event had also received overwhelming entries from individual runners as well as the children.
“Preparations are still going on, but we are having the competition, we are set to host the event, the First Lady will flag off the event at 08:00hrs,” Omara said.
She said this year’s ICR had been categorised by a number of activities that include the 5km Health Walk the 10km ,Relay Race for a team of eight (8) people and the 100m Chief Executive Race.
The rest are the 100m Directors’ Race, 10km and individual runners, the Kids Athletics and there is a newly introduced Tug-of-War and Aerobics among others.
Among the companies expected to take part include Airtel, SOS Village, Muvi Television, ZESCO, First National Bank (FNB), BATA and Zambia National Service (ZNS).
Others are, Zambia Breweries, Multichoice, Proflight, Zambia State Insurance, National Road Fund Agency )NRFA) and the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA).
