MORE than 70 per cent works on Shimaini Investment Limited, a special purpose vehicle milling plant for the Mineworkers Union of Zambia (MUZ) in Kalulushi district has been done.
As part of its diversification strategy, in 2014 MUZ incorporated Shimaini Investment Limited to run the business side of the union and drive the country’s diversification agenda.
MUZ general secretary Joseph Chewe said more than 70 per cent on the installation of the US$2 million milling plant had been done and that it would be commissioned in September this year.
“Works are going on well. So far more than 70 per cent of works have been done on the milling plant and at the current speed, by September it could be commissioned,” Mr Chewe said.
He said this in an interview in Kitwe yesterday.
The milling facility, with a capacity to produce 6,000 by 25 kilogramme bags of mealie-meal per day, is being developed with funding from the Development Bank of Zambia and members’ contributions.
