A THIRTY-YEAR-OLD woman of Mpika District has been killed by her husband who beat her up after the couple differed when they returned home from a drinking spree.
Muchinga Province police commissioner Auxensio Daka said the deceased, Josephine Mubanga, of Kamwanya in Chief Chikwanda’s area is believed to have died after being beaten by her husband.
Mr Daka said the incident happened on an unknown date and time but occurred after the couple came from a drinking spree.
“It is believed the deceased was beaten by her husband only identified as Goma after a fight on an unknown date and time, but she died on Monday around 16:00 hours. The deceased’s sister reported the death of her sister,” he said.
Mr Daka said the deceased had bruises on her face, adding the husband was currently in police custody.
He said the suspect had not been charged yet as the police were waiting for a pathologist from Lusaka to ascertain the cause of death.
Meanwhile, Mr Daka said a 31-year-old man has been arrested and charged for defiling a 15-year-old girl.
Mr Daka said Robson Kapyanga was arrested on Monday at a guest house in Shiwang’andu district in Muchinga province where he was found having sex with the minor.
And a 19-year-old man of Shiwan’gandu has died after being electrocuted while he attempted to climb a Zesco tower.
Mr Daka confirmed that Sunday Mwiche, who is said to have been a mental patient, attempted to climb the 66 kilovott Zesco tower and died after being electrocuted.
Mr Daka said the deceased sustained burns on the stomach, left side of the face and the arm.
He said his brother Julius Mwiche, 21, of Kamba village in Shiwan’gandu, reported the matter to the police on June 27.
“We have a report in which a 19-year-old man has been electrocuted after trying to climb a Zesco tower.
“He is said to be a mental patient. He sustained severe burns on his body and died on the spot,” Mr Daka said.
