By CHILA NAMAIKO –
A TAXI driver of Chongwe, who is also Patriotic Front (PF) Chalimbana mobilisation coordinator, has been stabbed to death by a group of youths who hired him to ferry some goods from a farm in the area.
The driver, who has been identified as Paul Longwani, was discovered dead around 17:00 hours on Tuesday in Chongwe.
Police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has confirmed the incident and disclosed that four suspects have been apprehended in connection with the murder of Mr Longwani.
Mr Hamoonga said the suspects used a knife to stab Mr Longwani to death and later abandoned him in his motor vehicle.
“Apparently, the suspects were apprehended at Mtendere Police today (yesterday) after a tip off from a traditional doctor who was approached by the suspects for cleansing,” he said.
Mr Hamoonga said the suspects have since been taken to Chongwe for further investigations.
PF Lusaka Province youth chairperson Kennedy Kamba has described the gruesome murder of Mr Longwani as unfortunate and that it was politically motivated.
Mr Kamba has called on the police to thoroughly investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, police have refuted as false, reports that the woman filmed in a video where she was brutally beaten and sexually molested was admitted to Levy Mwanawasa Hospital in Lusaka.
Mr Hamoonga said the woman had not yet been located and asked members of the public with information about her whereabouts to report to the police.
He, however, said officers were investigating the matter that had gone viral on social media.
