Lubinda NewBy HOPE BWALYA –

THE Government has said truckloads of farming inputs are already in various districts countrywide to distribute farming inputs in readiness for the 2016/2017 farming season.
This follows the flagging-off of the distribution of the inputs by Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda, which will cover more than one million small-scale farmers across the country.
Mr Lubinda said in an interview yesterday that the trucks were currently distributing inputs under the conventional Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).
“The process is going on smoothly. I can confirm that truckloads of D-compound under the conventional FISP are already distributing. Far-flung districts like Chadiza have already received the expected allocation,” Mr Lubinda said.
The minister was confident that before August this year, all districts in the country would have received farming inputs in line with the Government’s desire.
He said that all agro dealers should position themselves in readiness for servicing the farmers, especially in districts where the Electronic-Voucher system would be used for the distribution exercise.
Mr Lubinda has since appealed to Zambians to give the Patriotic Front (PF) another mandate to ensure continued early distribution of farming inputs.
“I want to assure Zambians that in three years’ time under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu and if I continue as Minister of Agriculture, the issue of delayed delivery of farming inputs to farmers will be a thing of the past,” Mr Lubinda said.
He said that early distribution of inputs was not because of campaigns but that, it was the right way in line with the Government’s desire to increase food production.
