Sikanze win Lusaka girls’ cricket league

SIKANZE Riders bagged the Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU) Lusaka 35 Overs girls’ league played on round robin with an assailable six points despite suffering a defeat at the hands of Potch Girls.
The highly competitive league games played at Olympafrica Centre saw four teams tie on four points as Sikanze ran away with the title following three wins and defeats from the six games played.
Matero, Potch, Makeni Jetters and Chilenje Warriors finished in second, third, fourth and fifth places respectively despite finishing on four points while Kaunda Square were bottom on two points.
On the field of play, Sikanze, hoping to main their unbeaten runs, faced the stubborn Potch who lost the previous week.
Sikanze won the toss and elected to bat first scoring 113 all out as Nelia Daka top scored for with 27 runs with Abigail Moyo and Elica Luwisha contributing 25 and 23 runs respectively while Memory Phiri made 19 runs.
Pick of the bowlers for Potch was Arleen Chishinga who got four wickets as Lucy Mukwanaze and Elica Kabadula both picked up two wickets apiece. Potch, batting second, chased the score with two wickets to spare to win by eight wickets. Chishinga made 26 runs while Catharine Kaluba made 24 runs with Anny Phiri scoring 21 runs.
In other league matches, Makeni Jetters batted first and scored 124 runs for five wickets down in 35 overs.
Fanny Nyereti top scored with 32 runs with Evelyn Musonda scoring 28 runs, Filo Chanda 22 runs while Monica Shayambe scored 21 runs. Shila Phiri was the best bowler for Kaunda Square with two wickets.
Kaunda Square batting second managed to pass the score with Phiri making 31 runs as Mary Kayuni made 28 runs, Gift Ngoma scored 24 runs and Cynthia Lubwita 18 runs with Christine Zulu contributing 16 runs.
Chilenje Warriors beat Matero Queens by five wickets. Matero Queens won the toss and decided to bat first and scored 134 runs all out.
Ruth Musakabantu scored 20 runs, Tracy Mubanga scored 15 runs while the best bowler for Chilenje Warriors was Vivian Mwanza with three wickets. Chilenje Warriors batting second reached their victory target with Rachel Mutuna top scoring with 29 runs.
