THEBE Investment Management, a leading Zambian property development firm, has commenced the construction of access roads within the Nkwashi development project.
Thebe is the developer of Nkwashi a 3,100 acre mixed use development that is expected to have a population in excess of 60,000 people once completed.
The development is the most ambitious to-date in Zambia and among the largest in Africa.
It includes over 9,500 residential properties, a 50 acre commercial estate, nine schools, a university, over 500 acres of green space and two lakes which will have a reserve capacity of four million litres.
Nkwashi site agent and foreman Aaron Mwiya said in a statement that they had started the construction of the access roads within the estate and are expected to be completed by end of this year.
“We have started the construction of access roads and we expect to complete the road works by December this year, our clients will have access to the estate using the same roads,” Mr Mwiya said.
Thebe executive chairperson Situmbeko Musokotwane said his firm was proud to announce another breakthrough achievement with the launch of Nkwashi project eagle which commenced in June.
This means that the secondary road and tertiary roads along the basic plots have been opened as of the month of June.
“We are here at Nkwashi; it is a new development in Lusaka with an estimated number of inhabitants to be in the region of 90 to 100,000.This is the first development taking place in Zambia but it is not completely new in the African context,” Dr Musokotwane said.
He explained that the development of such  magnitude would comprise residential and commercial areas, universities, hotels and schools and that it would be a self-contained community.
“I am proud to be associated with this project and we are making good progress and we are here on site opening up the area and as we move on towards the end of the year, we hope to do more and more,” he said.
“Our promise to our customers is that we are going to deliver on our promises that we have made, that is giving you good quality streets that are paved, water, electricity and having organised development where houses are planned and making sure everything works perfectly,” he said.
