CHIEF Mumena of the Kaonde people in North-Western Province, has said the region has received a fair share of infrastructure development.
Chief Mumena said key areas of the province have received development and that other projects initiated by Government were about to commence.
He said in an interview that Solwezi had continued to have a facelift in terms of infrastructure development as evidenced from various structures such as new buildings, Civic centre, roads and a shopping mall.
Chief Mumena said the development, which was being witnessed in Solwezi should also be felt in other areas in the province.
“In terms of development, I can say yes and no, yes in the sense that North-western Province has received a share of development which we have seen in certain key areas. No in that, projects in certain key areas of the province have not yet taken off, but over and above, development is there,” he said.
Chief Mumena said that construction of the Chingola –Solwezi Road should be accorded urgent attention, as it was a vital economic link.
He said the contractors who were on site and working on the road should ensure that they deliver a quality job.
The chief said in the current state of the road, it remained costly for business people including mining companies to haul copper.
“The Chingola-Solwezi Road is an economic  one  which is generating a lot of income for the country, I think it is something we need to think outside the box and ensure the road is worked on.
“We are not going to continue talking about it, because it should have been worked on a long time ago. Let the contractors on the site do a good job,” he added.
