‘MIGHTY’ Mufulira Wanderers yesterday resumed the second round of the season with an important win against Forest Rangers which also boosted the team’s chances of beating relegation.
Ghanaian Rahim Osumanu grabbed the all-important goal mid-way in the first half when he headed in a Taonga Bwembya cross which Forest goalkeeper Jairos Mulenga misjudged as he attempted to punch it to safety.
Osumanu had earlier threatened with a pin-point shot in the box which Mulenga parried away for a corner.
The goal came against the run of play as Forest dominated proceedings but lacked the killer instinct in the final third.
Forest coach Patrick Phiri rued the missed chances, but was quick to say his players had a nice game despite the defeat.
Wanderers coach Paulo Silva, who was in charge for the third time since he was employed, said he was happy to pick his first win with the team and hoped it would help spark positive results.
It was Wanderers’ fourth win of the season which saw them climb two places on the log to 10th position on 22 points, while Forest are seventh with 24 points.
Wanderers have picked form just at the right time as they remain unbeaten in seven matches, while Forest picked their second consecutive defeat having closed the first half of the season with a 4-1 drabbing at Nkana.
