THE Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) has washed its hands off 11 associations that have not paid their 2016 affiliation fees.
The SCZ said yesterday that defaulting associations were operating without the blessings of the country’s sports mother body.
From the 43 associations registered with the SCZ, 32 have paid the 2016 affiliation fees while 11 are yet to pay.
SCZ general secretary Emmanuel Phiri said in an interview that the 11 associations who have not yet settled their affiliations have no blessings from the SCZ and that the organisation will not be held accountable for anything that goes on in the associations.
“Government will not be held accountable because those 11 associations are not affiliated to SCZ, so they have no blessing from the Government,” he said.
Phiri said this when releasing a list of the 11 associations who have not paid and include the Zambia Hockey Association (ZHA) who were stopped from holding their Annual General Meeting owing to non-payment of affiliation fees.
Other associations on the defaulters’ list are Handball Association of Zambia (HAZ), Zambia Tennis Association (ZTA), Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF), Zambia Weightlifting Federation (ZWF) and the Zambia Baseball and Softball Association (ZBSA).
The rest are Zambia Amateur Rowing and Canoeing Association (ZARCA), Zambia Pool Union (ZPU), Gymnastic Federation of Zambia (GFZ), Zambia Taekwondo Federation (ZTF) and the Acrobatics Association of Zambia (AAZ).
